Tenerife – Our Island Paradise!
Tenerife delivers outstanding nature and variable climates. The South of the island, where Our Private House Hotel is located, sees little rainfall and is therefore dry, but far from barren. The lush green vegetation of the North reflects far greater precipitation.
Hiking
Locally, just 7Km from Our Private House Hotel, is the ravine “Barranco del Infierno” a popular hiking trail which leads through the ravine to the highest waterfall in Tenerife.
There are endless approved and local hiking routes throughout the island. A full listing and suggestions are available at the house.
Teide National Park
The Teide National Park is the largest and oldest national park in the Canary Islands and home to Spain’s highest peak, Mount Teide.
It is one of the top attractions on Tenerife. The rugged landscape of the park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is magnificent—a geological wonder featuring an expanse of rugged lava fields, ancient calderas, and volcanic peaks.
At night there are organized trips to the observatories that scan a clear night sky and reveal the magical wonders of our solar system.
La Laguna
San Cristóbal de La Laguna, commonly known as La Laguna, is a city and municipality in the northern part of the island. The city is the third-most populous city of the archipelago and the second-most populous city of the island.
La Laguna’s historical centre was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. In 2003 the municipality started an ambitious Urban Plan to renew this area.
The city was the ancient capital of the Canary Islands. La Laguna lies right alongside the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, thus, the two cities and municipalities form a single large urban center, linked by tram.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, commonly abbreviated as Santa, is the capital city of the island of Tenerife. It is the second largest city in the Canary Islands and the main city on the island with nearly half of the island’s population living in or around it. Its harbour is one of Spain’s busiest. It is important for commercial and passenger traffic as well as for being a major stopover for cruisers en route from Europe to the Caribbean. The city also hosts one of the world’s largest carnivals. The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife now aspires to become a World Heritage Site, and is the second largest in the world.
The main landmarks of the city include the Auditorio de Tenerife (Auditorium of Tenerife), the Torres de Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz Towers), the Plaza de España (Spain Square) and the Iglesia de la Concepción (Church of the Immaculate Conception).
